One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how many different theories there are in regards to what happened to the lost tribes of Israel. Yet Black Hebrews have existed since biblical times. Identifying the Bantu as the descendants of the Israelites extremely important. I'm not necessarily about to change my name and move to Israel or hang out with the ones here, but this gives blacks a nationality and a heritage as opposed to being simply associated with the landmass of Africa.
While being sensitive to the concern of African American identity, I reject the constructed identity of the Black Hebrew Israelites. We are not affiliated with any Hebrew Israelite groups or organizations, nor any Churches or other Religious institutions. We know Israel did NOT keep God's laws and commandments so that means NONE of the blessings are upon the true Israelites.
There are many biblical references to various locations in Africa and interaction between the ancient Israelites and African peoples and places: King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba; migration into Egypt and subsequent enslavement, etc. As a direct result of their disobedience to the laws and commandments of God, the ancient Hebrew Israelites were held captive by various nations including the Egyptians, Assyrians and Babylonians.
As long as other Black religious traditions fail to offer answers to questions of black suffering, small but significant numbers of Black people will seek refuge in beliefs that offer an alternate theological explanation for the crisis of Black life in America.
